Safety Month 2019

Forklift Safety. It’s no accident.

Make a note in your diary. This year’s National Forklift Safety Month will run from 1st – 31st October.

It’s the FLTA’s annual, month-long fork lift truck safety campaign created to focus on the appallingly high number of forklift-related accidents and injuries… and share ways we can all do something about it.

What’s the problem?

Everyone’s familiar with forklifts… but few realise how dangerous they can be.

In the UK there are more than 1300 forklift-related accidents each year… which means, on average, five accidents every working day. And these aren’t just scrapes and scratches, they are life-changing injuries involving crushed bones, amputations and deaths.

Who should get involved?

The fork lift truck industry works hard to improve safety but in order to make a real difference we need to get everyone involved.

That’s why Safety Month isn’t just for fork lift truck operators – it’s for supervisors, managers and safety personnel as well as those on foot who work alongside trucks.

In short, it’s about taking up the challenge and, using the tools we offer. Making your site safer.

Are you ready to be that agent of change?

Count me in! What happens next?

Throughout Safety Month the FLTA website will post loads of free online resources which are perfect for putting across the campaign message: Forklift safety. It's no accident.

You’ll find safety videos, downloadable posters, benchmarking tools, free fact sheets and much more, including materials perfect for inductions, training sessions and toolbox talks.

The FLTA’s Store has a range of additional tools to support you, including low-cost employee safety handbooks which spell out the dos and don’ts to anyone working on or in close proximity to forklifts.

The highlight of the month will be the National Forklift Safety Convention on Wednesday 30th October. You can find out more and book your place here.

Of course, for year-round safety guidance why not join our Safe User Group which gives you regular Health & Safety updates, factsheets, technical bulletins and a great deal more – all for the price of a weekly cup of coffee.

In the meantime, why not contact your local FLTA member? They have the expertise to assess your premises and make recommendations on ways you can make it safer place for work-mates.
